Species: Sandwastes Dragon
Art: White
Experience required: Moderate
Appearance: Squat and stocky, these are not the lithe dragons usually depicted in human media. 3' to 4' at the shoulder and usually ranging from 5' to 9' in length, these dragons are often roughly a third as wide as they are long. They appear to be cobbled together or even carved from a specific type of tree native to the Sandwastes, and when they lay flat, is impossible to tell if they are, in fact, a dragon, or if they are simply a section of a tree, like someone hacked off a large portion of a log- bark and snapped-close-to-the-base branches included. Females tend to be smoother overall with less of the branch effect, but they are also larger and more squat than the males.
Abilities: Will occasionally cleanse the area if enough negative energy builds up and disrupts their sunning, can make good defenders- females often have a type of venom that forces blood to coagulate, bone to turn to a jelly-like substance, and their prey to go completely limp while maintaining awareness so that the still-living meal can be brought back to their nests for their spawn. Many may be bribed to sun in a specific location and act as a perimeter guard, snapping up any intruders if they are the right size for a meal [meaning anything that they can swallow or tear into swallow-able bits that doesn't look like it will fight overly much and damage them]
Offerings: Food, especially raw meat
About: These dragons are scattered across the Sandwastes, a desert system many dozens of times larger than the Sahara. They can often be found within 75 miles or so of an oasis, perching head-down on the trunk of a tree. When still, especially with their wings pulled in as they often are, they camouflage perfectly to appear as part of the tree. They linger in one place roughly 95% of their lives, occasionally switching to a different tree. Most of their movement is simply moving around the trunk of their favorite tree to remain in the best patch of sun possible to remain warm. They are ambush predators, and simply snap up anything that wanders past them and looks edible [most mammals, including the occasional human for those that aren't familiar with the concept of humans seeking revenge and forming hunting parties to exterminate man-eaters]. They are more intelligent than your average lizard by far, but they think much differently than humans and have little interaction with them outside of being fed some sort of moderate to large livestock being prodded out in front of a traveler/band of travelers so that they are too full to go for anything carrying luggage/merchandise. Most have no interest in anything aside from sunning and eating. Those who wish to seek companionship are either wishing to form a working relationship, food for protection, or are more curious than most and wish to learn about humans on their plane by watching those on this plane [they are quite similar in many ways].
